Lusco's Broiled Pompano

Lusco's Restaurant... Greenwood, MS

Pompano

Diane and I decided that we were going to make a side trip to Greenwood, MS on the way to the Southern
Foodways Symposium in Oxford, MS. We had been hearing of the Pompano that is served at several restaurants in Greenwood and figured while in the area we would kill three birds with one stone. We would get to stay at The Alluvian Hotel, visit the Viking Range cooking school and eat Pompano at Lusco's. Indeed the detour was worth it on all three counts. The Alluvian is a four star hotel and right across the street from Viking's cooking school. While we were there we got to visit with Donald Bender, the Viking Cooking School baker, sampled some of his wonderful breads and toured the bakery.
We went to Lusco's that night and met Andy,Karen and Drew Pinkston, fourth and fifth generation owners. We ate onion rings, and a broiled shrimp appetizer and followed with a salad that we shared. Then a huge 2 -3/4 to 3 pound Pompano, broiled to perfection, served in a very light fish sauce. We also ordered jumbo lump crabmeat served in the same sauce the fish was swimming in. Lusco's, The Alluvian and Viking Range was well worth our visit to Greenwood, MS

Sorry about the confusion with the screen name. Inside joke between myself and a few friends.
